Yesterday, a video made the rounds on the internet of Jamie Jackson as a victim of police brutality, after attending Sydney’s Mardi Gras. Today, a video was released of the events that happened shortly before the events of yesterdays video. It shows of an apprehended Jamie Jackson swinging at and punching the police officer. He then continues to make obscene finger gestures in front of his face while the police officers attempt to apprehend him.
Unfortunately, in regards to citizen journalism, the citizen has the ability to record something that does not explain both sides of the story. Although the force used was a bit excessive, the police officer’s life and career could be over because someone that identified themselves as a “press photographer” had the nerve to cover a story with complete bias.
Disclaimer: This is not a post condoning and/or supporting police brutality. The police force are responsible all their actions. But as an aspiring journalist, seeing people parade themselves as “press”, but having a hidden agenda is morally wrong, especially after posting only one side of a story.
