NY mugger identified by internet within an hour, after NYPD spent 3 weeks on case

After the NYPD failed to identify a mugger after three weeks, they took to the internet for help. They released a video of the crime and within the hour, a user had posted the Facebook of the criminal.

Gawker.com posted the video and within minutes, user “secretsout” wrote: “https://www.facebook.com/Stugotz27 link to most likely suspect. take care of business guys.” The link went straight to 21-year old Aidan Folan. What police were able to discover were photos taken of him before the robbery, which revealed Folan wearing the same sweatshirt in the photo and in the NYPD-released video.

Users on the New York’s Daily Intelligencer site were able to identify Folan.

Folan has since been charged with assault and robbery.
