At least two people have died and dozens more have been injured after explosions detonated at the Boston Marathon finish line.
Witnesses said that some of the victims were missing limbs. The injured were brought straight to the medical tent usually reserved for the runners.
“They just started bringing people in in with no limbs,” said Tim Davey, of Virginia, who had to shield his wife and child’s eyes from the gruesome scenes unfolding before their eyes. One woman was heard screaming, “Where are my children?!”
The explosions coincided with Patriots’ Day celebrations. The race was also dedicated to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, where a 26 minute salute, and a Newtown seal emblazoned on the 26th mile, in relation to the 26 victims.
The bombs were reportedly homemade.
President Obama told a press conference that they would promise ‘full weight of justice’ on those responsible.
A third explosion was detected at the JFK Presidential Library, about three miles away from the finish line, however, Boston Police have ruled it out as a related event, saying that explosion was “fire-related”.
